During this workshop participants will be given the opportunity to work through a case study which begins with receiving a complaint about employee misconduct. Participants will create a plan to conduct and document the investigation and determine what, if any, disciplinary action is warranted. Participants will then have the opportunity to follow the case through the grievance and appeal process including preparing for a mediation conference. In addition to the case study, participants will be provided with best practice information about employee conduct investigations, the application of progressive discipline and the grievance and appeal process. Particular focus will be given to the necessary documentation related to these topics. The workshop will wrap up with a session on coaching managers on effective communication and coaching. This session will provide guidance to participants on support they can provide to managers to address employee relations issues before situations escalate.

Brief Description:
An interactive workshop covering topics including an overview of the state classification system and the Fair Labor Standards Act and its impact on classification and compensation. Participants will gain insight on the state compensation system, to include how to conduct a salary analysis, how to address salary compression, and how to analyze and ensure pay equity. The workshop will wrap up with an overview of the role of Admin's Division of State Human Resources (DSHR) in classification and compensation decisions, a discussion on best practices for documenting classification and compensation actions, and an introduction of DSHR staff who assist with SCEIS transactions.
