Media Advisory: Reverend Jesse Jackson to Lie in State at South Carolina State House 

Columbia, S.C. – The Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. will lie in state at the South Carolina State House Monday, March 2, 2026. Following a small private family ceremony inside the State House, the visitation will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Those in line at 4:30 p.m. will not be denied entry.

Members of the public must enter at the northeast entrance of the State House and go through regular security screening. Gifts or flowers will not be allowed inside the Statehouse.   

South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) will provide streaming coverage from the State House from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at scetv.org.

Sequence of Events:

• 9 a.m. 
  Reverend Jackson’s casket will depart from Leevy’s Funeral Home on Taylor Street enroute to the State House.
  The funeral procession will arrive at the north side of the Statehouse at the intersection of Main and Gervais Streets and will then proceed to the south side of the State House.
  The South Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard will escort Reverend Jackson’s casket up the south side steps and into the State House.
• 10 a.m.                
  A private Jackson family ceremony to be held inside the State House on the second floor.
• 11:30 a.m.         
  Public visitation begins on the second floor of the State House.
• 4:30 p.m.            
  Public visitation ends.
• 5 p.m.                   
  Departure. The South Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard will escort Reverend Jackson’s casket down the south side steps of the State House. 

Important Information for Media:

SCETV will provide pooled video coverage via satellite feed or a mult box from the third floor of the State House. No other video cameras or filming will be permitted inside the State House.
