Program Summary
Section 1033 of the National Defense Authorization Act of 1997 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to transfer excess Department of Defense equipment and property to state and local law enforcement agencies. This property is procured at no cost to the agency except for any shipping or transportation costs. The eligible agencies in law enforcement activities are government agencies whose primary function is the enforcement of applicable federal, state and local laws, and whose compensated law enforcement officers have powers of arrest and apprehension. Preference is given to counter-drug and counter-terrorism activities.
Types of Available Property: night vision equipment, tactical vehicles, aircraft, first aid supplies and rescue equipment, weapons, surveillance equipment, vehicles, etc.
Cost: There is an annual administrative fee based on the number of officers in your department or agency to participate in the 1033 Program.
