Performs legal services or provides professional advice to state agencies and officials on legal matters.
Positions in this class perform duties without regular guidance from their supervisor. Positions are not regularly assigned complex or sensitive legal matters.
Conducts legal research. Prepares opinions involving legislative acts and court decisions. Represents state agencies in civil, criminal and equity litigation. Prepares and drafts agreements and related documents for state agencies. Drafts legislative bills, resolutions and amendments for the state legislature, agencies and cabinet officials.
Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions.
Member of the South Carolina Bar.
A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
