Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is intended for use at the advanced journey and beginning managerial levels. Work involves complex, non-routine data management and statistical analysis to include presentation of data, analysis of trends and predictions for future action.

Examples of Work

Plans and conducts special research and data management projects. Selects sampling techniques and coordinates the collection and compilation of numerical data and program information. Develops procedures for the management, verification and maintenance of program data. Uses computer software packages in the analysis and presentation of data; works closely with data processing professionals to develop data collection and manipulation programs. Supervises and trains clerks and less-experienced analysts. Produces ad hoc reports.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of methods of research design, data collection, data manipulation, data analysis and presentation of information. Knowledge of applicable computer software products. Ability to analyze and interpret data using various statistical and mathematical techniques. Ability to predict trends and future action based on the analysis of collected information. Ability to prepare and present reports communicating the results of data analysis. Ability to supervise subordinates and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma and professional experience involving research, data management and record-keeping activities. A bachelor's degree with mathematics and/or statistics courses may be substituted for the required work experience.
