Investigators in this class help more senior Investigators perform routine to moderately complex investigations.
Investigates regulated activities to ensure compliance with federal, state or municipal laws. Locates and interviews plaintiffs, witnesses or representatives of business or government to gather facts relating to alleged violations. Observes conditions to determine if there has been a law violation relating to such activities as revenue collection, employment practices or benefit claims. Examines business, personal or public records and documents to establish facts and authenticity of data. Investigates applicants for special licenses or permits; investigates suspected misuses of licenses or permits. Prepares correspondence and reports of investigations for use by administrative or legal authorities. Testifies in court or at administrative proceedings concerning findings of investigations.
Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations applicable to the job. Knowledge of investigative techniques, principles and practices. Ability to evaluate evidence and conduct investigations. Ability to present clear, concise and comprehensive written and oral reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, claimants, attorneys, witnesses and the general public.
A high school diploma and experience or training that would provide the applicant with a knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations applicable to the occupational area.
