Provides education and counseling in areas of family and child development and nutrition.
Positions in this class include entry-level nutritionists.
Provides WIC certifications and counseling to low-risk individuals and families within scope of practice. Develop, conduct and evaluate group nutrition education. Consults with members of the health care team. Assists with maintenance and revision of nutrition education materials and resources. Provides breast feeding promotion and support activities. Prepare and submit documentation and reports for program monitoring.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic nutrition, family life and child development. Knowledge of principles of education and group processes. Ability to work well with people of varying economic and educational levels. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the health care team.
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, food science, dietetics, family and consumer sciences or other science related degree with emphasis on nutrition. An associate degree in science with relevant nutrition experience in a clinical or public health setting may substitute for the required bachelor’s degree.
