General Nature of Work

Provides management, leadership and vision for the student financial aid services; accountable for regulatory compliance, stewardship of scholarship funds, and implementation of best practices in administration of financial aid programs.

Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is used for positions responsible for managing a major comprehensive financial aid program. It is typically used for managerial employees who accomplish institution objectives through subordinate supervisors with diverse areas of responsibility.

Examples of Work

Recommends, interprets, administers, reviews and updates financial aid policies, procedures and services ensuring compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations/policies. Acts as liaison with the Department of Education and other agencies to respond to questions, resolve problems, provide data, interpret and apply changes in rules and regulations concerning financial aid. Reviews, responds and communicates proposed legislation related to financial aid to appropriate personnel. Attends and participates in professional groups, seminars, and/or training. Manages financial aid personnel. Conducts regular training and uses available resources to ensure staff is current with federal, state and institutional regulations. Plans, leads, organizes, evaluates, and improves all day-to-day functions and operations of the financial aid and scholarships department in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations/policies. Develops and implements best practices in administration of financial aid programs. Monitors work flow efficiencies; recommends and implements changes as necessary. Prepares and administers all financial aid award budgets and all office administrative budgets. Conducts internal audits of financial aid administration. Monitors compliance with federal, state and institutional guidelines. Manages the development and dissemination of federal, state and institutional reports. Develops and implements a strategic plan for awarding and distributing funds to eligible students in distributing funds in accordance with federal, state and institutional guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of federal and state financial aid laws and regulations. Ability to establish and implement department strategic plan. Provide effective leadership to financial aid and scholarship staff and guidance to supervisors who manage others. Strong oral and written communication skills. Possess organizational skills. Prioritize emerging issues and meet deadlines. Establish efficient and effective work flow processes. Utilize critical thinking, creativity and problem solving skills. Demonstrated experience and knowledge working in higher education in the area of financial aid. Working knowledge of financial aid programs and integrated software systems. Ability to provide supportive counseling for a wide range of student problems and concerns.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelorメs degree and related financial aid experience.
