Supervises personnel involved in departmental operations; oversees operations of a large unit.

Examples of Work

Plans, directs or coordinates the operations of a unit or large department. Manages daily operations of the unit. Directs the scheduling of data processing to ensure maximum efficiency. Coordinates the administrative and management functions of a large, diversified operations section. Audits departmental procedures. Plans the use of materials and human resources. Manages staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific duties. Supervises and participates in departmental operations. Develops policies and procedures for related areas. Determines staffing requirements, and interviews, hires and trains new employees. Manages operations budget. Develops strategic objectives for unit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with operators and end customers. Ability to plan, organize and review the work of administrative and technical staff. Ability to develop and implement administrative policies and procedures and evaluate their effectiveness. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to prepare technical and non-technical reports in a clear and concise manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Requirements

An associate degree with experience in computer operations or a related data processing field. Related experience may be substituted for the required associate's degree on a year-for-year basis.
