Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is typically used for employees who accomplish institutional objectives through management of a broad spectrum of medium scale public and private grants and contracts programs.

Examples of Work

Directs and manages fiscal and administrative operations and activities related to grants and contracts management administered through institutional academic units and institutes. Provides guidance to principal investigators regarding contract requirements, provisions of contractual report and financial and agency requirements. Serves as primary liaison with funding agencies; negotiates final grant and contract terms in consultation with appropriate agency authorities. Reviews and approves contract proposals for fund allocation and compatibility with agency and/or institution objectives. Reviews current and pending legislative changes to stay current on federal research and compliance requirements. Manages other grant coordinators who review grants and provide guidance to Principle Investigators.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of contractual and grant monitoring procedures. Knowledge of accounting and financial management principles and procedures. Knowledge of agency policies and regulations which pertain to contractual and grant activities. Ability to review and assess complex grants and contracts. Ability to direct the activities of subordinate personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with local, state and federal agencies. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor's degree in a related field and experience in oversight of contract and grant administration activities.
