General Nature of Work

Directs the graphics production activities for magazines, brochures, booklets and educational materials for an agency, department or institution.

Examples of Work

Oversees the day-to-day graphics production of each magazine issue. Develops graphic designs to complement manuscripts scheduled for publication. Confers with editorial and photographic staff to communicate deadlines and to ensure the quality and accuracy of visual interpretations. Formulates and submits graphics budget proposals. Develops professional presentations and displays for the magazine.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of graphic arts applicable to magazine publications. Knowledge of graphic design, layout and printing processes. Ability to communicate information with effectively designed graphic presentations. Ability to evaluate art and photographs for the accurate interpretation of editorial content. Ability to supervise the work of a creative production staff.

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor's degree in graphic arts or art and work experience in graphic arts for print media publications.
