Plans, develops, markets and delivers public health education instruction to local health program participants and community groups.

Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is intended for use at the entry level.

Examples of Work

Administers face-to-face, telephone and/or printed survey instruments according to approved procedures. Writes learning objectives in behavioral terms. Selects instructional materials consistent with learner characteristics, learning objectives and learning activities. Reviews and reads health education literature. Assures timely distribution of media materials to media outlets. Teaches approved curricula to clients. Utilizes appropriate materials, personnel, organizations and other resources outside the learner group to promote further individualized learning.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of modern educational practices and theories. Knowledge of techniques for preparing and presenting educational visual aids, displays and exhibits. Knowledge of the principles, practices and theories of health promotion and education. Ability to accurately deliver the curriculum with sensitivity to learner characteristics. Ability to design and deliver presentations for program participants.

Special Requirements

Some positions require a valid driver's license.

Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in a public health area. A bachelor's degree in health education, health promotion or a closely related field such as psychology, biology, sociology, education or physical education may be substituted for the required experience.
