Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics

This class is intended for use at the senior journey or supervisory levels in the installation, repair and maintenance of electronic and electromechanical equipment.

Examples of Work

Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs electronic and electromechanical equipment.Performs alignment, calibration, modification and testing of analog, digital and microprocessor-based equipment.Establishes and implements inventory controls for assigned equipment.Consults with and advises agency personnel concerning the design and layout of electronic systems.Supervises subordinate electronics technicians in the installation and maintenance of electronic and electromechanical equipment.Trains and advises lower-level technicians, equipment operators and users.Tests new equipment to determine if specifications are met.Modifies equipment to meet requirements by rewiring or by adding auxiliary devices.Maintains work orders for repairs and the installation of equipment.Reviews technical data concerning electronic equipment capabilities; recommends types of equipment for purchase.Participates in the development of the assigned unit's budget and monitors expenditures.Performs duties in the maintenance and repair of building electrical systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and practices applied in the installation, maintenance, repair and modification of electronic and electromechanical equipment.Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment associated with electronic and electromechanical equipment.Ability to detect problems in and repair electronic and electromechanical equipment.Ability to supervise technicians and advise equipment users and operators.Ability to read and interpret designs, schematics, specifications and maintenance manuals.Ability to follow on-the-job safety guidelines and accident prevention practices.

Special Requirements

Some positions may require a valid driver's license or a valid commercial driver's license (CDL).

Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma and experience or additional technical training in the repair and maintenance of electronic or electromechanical equipment.
