Employees in this class assist skilled employees, or they may independently perform tasks requiring a limited degree of professional skill.
Helps skilled trades workers perform maintenance and repair tasks in such areas as arboriculture, mechanics, carpentry, welding, masonry, electricity, heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and boiler operation. Cleans and maintains tools and equipment. Inspects assigned areas to ensure cleanliness and sanitation. Loads and unloads equipment and supplies. Disposes of waste and trash. Cleans and lubricates cars, trucks and other vehicles; replaces belts and changes oil, filters or tires; replaces mechanical parts as directed.
Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment. Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the designated trade. Knowledge of techniques, methods and practices used in the designated trade. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to perform arithmetic. Ability to communicate effectively. Willingness to work in confined spaces.
Experience, on-the-job training, and/or demonstrated knowledge related to the area of employment.
