Assists in planning and organizing occupational treatment programs, establishes treatment goals and conducts therapeutic activities. Provides parent/family education. Participates in diagnostic evaluations of patients by observation and interviews. Prepares progress and treatment reports. Participates in continuing education. Fabricates and adapts a variety of splints and other self-help devices for patients. Prepares and organizes activities. Supervises occupational therapy assistants.
Knowledge of the methods and techniques of occupational therapy. Knowledge of the characteristics of various mental handicaps and disabilities. Knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology or skeletal biomechanics, as applicable to the assigned area of work. Skill in the design and fabrication of a variety of splints and self-help devices for individual patients with bodily injuries. Ability to prepare and evaluate reports. Ability to explain the treatment needs of a patient to the family and others. Ability to work effectively with patients, patients' families, nurses and other staff members.
Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the South Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy.
A bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or a related field and work experience in occupational therapy.
