General Nature of Work

Enforces laws, rules and regulations governing the control and eradication of livestock diseases and the movement and treatment of animals.

Examples of Work

Inspects public livestock markets, stockyards and dealers in livestock for the purpose of preventing the spread of livestock diseases. Enforces regulations on vaccination of livestock. Enforces regulations pertaining to the testing of cattle for dairy or breeding purposes. Oversees the interstate movement of livestock; ensures that proper certificates are provided. Oversees the backtagging of livestock. Investigates violations of livestock laws, rules and regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing the vaccination of livestock, the Knowledge of animal husbandry, including livestock breeding. Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Requirements

A bachelor's degree and experience in livestock management.
