Performs and supervises paraprofessional accounting duties which may include posting, updating, reconciling, auditing and preparing summary financial and statistical reports.
Some positions in this class have supervisory responsibilities.
Prepares or assists in the preparation of invoices, receipts, vouchers, bank deposits, budget requests, projections, summary reports, payrolls and payroll files.Responsible for processing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.Assists in budget preparation and management.Screens disbursement, expenditure and fund transfer requests for accuracy, legality and authorization.Coordinates the receipt, inventory, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.Coordinates the assignment and maintenance of state-owned vehicles.Supervises paraprofessional and/or clerical personnel engaged in recording financial transactions, balancing and reconciling accounts, verifying accounting documents, preparing financial statements, dual employment requests and travel reimbursement requests and batching and scheduling the input of financial data into computerized systems.Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff; trains new employees.Reconciles small bank accounts; posts transactions to various accounts; deposits checks received from various state agencies and programs.Provides support documentation for report preparation; monitors account status to ensure timely transaction processing.Assists professional staff in implementing financial procedural changes, determining fund sources and ensuring fund availability; confers with external agency financial officials about procedures and records.Supervises the assimilation of payroll information, the processing of payroll changes, the distribution of payroll checks and the accounting control of payroll deductions.Interprets accounting system policies, procedures and forms.Supervises the collection and compilation of information for reporting purposes.

A high school diploma and experience in entry-level accounting or bookkeeping. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for required work experience.
