General Nature of Work

Participates in planning, implementing and evaluating health services in specialized areas; provides health care for selected patients and families in close collaboration with physicians; acts as a liaison for clinical service between the health preceptor and professional nursing staff.

Examples of Work

Participates in development and implementation of policies, standards and procedures affecting specialized areas of nursing practice. Provides consultation to personnel to improve nursing care. Develops materials for demonstration and teaching. Assists in research design to evaluate program activities; prepares related reports. Provides direct patient care in situations requiring an unusual amount of knowledge and skill. Directs the management of patient and family care through assessment, intervention and evaluation. Serves as a role model to staff to facilitate changes in practice for the improvement and expansion of services. Orients new personnel in specialty area; provides specialty expertise for staff development and in-service training programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the techniques and practices of the nursing profession. Knowledge of administrative methods and procedures. Knowledge of medical and nursing terminology. Ability to prepare educational and training materials for nursing care programs. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Ability to instruct, supervise and direct the work of paraprofessional staff. Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of patients. Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations.

Special Requirements

Licensed as a registered nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina. Some positions require a valid driverメs license. Also, some positions require certification in Basic Life Support and/or Basic/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience. Some positions require a valid driver’s license. Also, some positions require certification in Basic Life Support and/or Basic/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
