Coordinates master campus planning and/or major renovation or physical plant development for a state college or university.
This class is used for managerial-level campus planning or engineering work.
Directs the activities of the campus planning office; develops policies for implementation of the master campus plan. Prepares preliminary cost estimates and feasibility studies for all permanent improvement projects. Provides technical assistance and advice for physical planning and design. Administers the master plan review, implementation and modification process; ensures compliance with code requirements. Plans and directs construction and renovation activities for the college or university. Coordinates academic, financial and physical planning relating to the master plan and capital budgeting process. Coordinates the work of contractors and provides technical assistance. Confers with architects, engineers, and contractors concerning renovation projects. Conducts institutional research relating to the master plan. Conducts technical studies on building conditions, space utilization and needs. Manages space allocations; prepares reports supporting space requirements.
Knowledge of engineering theory and the problems of physical plant facilities. Knowledge of the latest technical improvements applicable to building design, space allocation, construction techniques, facilities planning and mechanical systems. Knowledge of construction and building laws, codes and ordinances. Knowledge of planning techniques and methods. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with architectural firms, contractors and college, university and government officials. Ability to write and interpret technical plans and reports pertaining to planning, design and campus renovation.
A bachelor's degree and professional experience in planning, construction or a related field.
